About…

Hello. I’m Toby Bennett, a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Southampton Solent University.

My PhD research asked what it means to work for a major record label in the UK, after the impact of digital technologies. I was particularly interested in the conditions and motivations of “non-creative” (that is, administrative or back-room) workers as they move through labour markets embedded in this “creative” context. I’m currently following this up with projects that explore the broader context of the place of cultural and creative industries in the knowledge economy.

This blog contains the offcuts, reflections and knee-jerk reactions that either don’t make the cut, or haven’t been fully thought through yet. With that in mind please feel free to challenge anything that appears on it!

Find out more about me here; more about the blog here; and, if you’re so inclined, what I’ve been listening to recently here.
